A developer posted ‘Analog Watch’ on Show HN, showcasing a tool for creating custom analog watch faces. The project aims to attract watch enthusiasts and developers interested in personalization and design.
A developer has introduced ‘Analog Watch’ on Show HN, a new tool that enables users to design and customize their own analog watch faces. This development is significant for watch enthusiasts and developers seeking a flexible platform for personalization and creative expression.
The project, shared publicly on Show HN, offers a web-based interface allowing users to create custom watch faces with various design elements, including hands, dials, and markers. The developer emphasizes that the tool is open-source and aims to facilitate both personal projects and potential integration into watch-related applications.
While the platform’s core features are demonstrated in the shared project, it is not yet clear whether it is fully functional, how extensive the customization options are, or if it will support real-time previewing on actual devices. The developer has invited feedback and contributions from the community to refine the tool.
Potential Impact on Watch Customization and Development
This development could influence how watch enthusiasts and developers approach customization, enabling more accessible and personalized designs for analog watches. If the project matures, it might foster a community around DIY watch face creation and even inspire new applications or integrations in the wearable tech space.
For consumers, this could mean more personalized options for smartwatches or analog-style displays, while developers may find it a useful resource for prototyping or educational purposes.

Background on Custom Watch Design Tools and Show HN Projects
Show HN is a platform where developers share projects to gather feedback and build communities. Over recent years, there has been growing interest in DIY watch customization, especially with the rise of smartwatches and open-source watch face platforms like Facer and WatchMaker.
The ‘Analog Watch’ project appears to be a response to this trend, aiming to create a simple yet flexible tool for designing traditional-looking analog watch faces. Prior efforts in this space have focused mainly on software for digital displays, making this a notable attempt to bring analog aesthetics into customizable digital environments.
“It looks promising, but I wonder how much flexibility it really offers for complex designs.”
